Privacy-First Digital Currency Built on Zero-Knowledge Cryptography

Zcash (ZEC) is a decentralised, open-source cryptocurrency that provides strong privacy protections using cutting-edge zero-knowledge proofs called zk-SNARKs.

Launched in 2016 and based on the original Zerocash academic paper, Zcash offers users the choice between transparent transactions (similar to Bitcoin) and fully shielded, private transactions where the sender, receiver, and amount are all cryptographically hidden.

Like Bitcoin, Zcash has a fixed supply of 21 million coins and uses proof-of-work mining - specifically the Equihash algorithm. This makes ZEC mineable with dedicated ASIC hardware, giving miners real earning potential while securing the network.

How to Mine Zcash: The Essentials

Get started with ZEC mining in four steps. Detailed guides for each stage are available in our full mining tutorial.

1

Choose Your Hardware

Select a Zcash ASIC miner. The Antminer Z15 Pro (840 KSol/s) is currently the most powerful option available. Consider hashrate, power draw, and ROI period.

2

Set Up a Zcash Wallet

Download a ZEC-compatible wallet. For maximum privacy, use a shielded z-address rather than a transparent t-address for your mining payouts.

3

Join a Mining Pool

Solo mining ZEC is impractical for most miners. Join a pool like F2Pool, 2Miners, or Luxor to earn consistent, predictable payouts proportional to your hashrate contribution.

4

Configure & Start Mining

Point your miner at the pool's stratum server using your wallet address as the worker name. Monitor your dashboard for accepted shares and estimated earnings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about mining ZEC.

What is the best ASIC miner for Zcash in 2025?+
The Antminer Z15 Pro is currently the most powerful Zcash ASIC miner, delivering 840 KSol/s at 2780W. It significantly outperforms the previous Z15 model (420 KSol/s) and is the go-to choice for serious ZEC miners in 2025.
What algorithm does Zcash use for mining?+
Zcash uses the Equihash proof-of-work algorithm. Originally designed to be ASIC-resistant by requiring large amounts of memory, it now has dedicated ASIC miners optimised for it - delivering far greater efficiency than GPU mining.
How much ZEC can I mine per day?+
Daily earnings depend on your hashrate, current network difficulty, pool fee, and ZEC price. Use our calculator above for a real-time estimate. With an Antminer Z15 Pro at current network conditions, miners typically earn a meaningful daily ZEC yield.
What is the current Zcash block reward?+
The current Zcash block reward is 3.125 ZEC per block, following the November 2024 halving. Blocks are produced every ~75 seconds, generating approximately 1,152 blocks per day. The next halving is expected around November 2028.
Is GPU mining still viable for Zcash?+
GPU mining ZEC is no longer economically competitive. ASIC miners like the Z15 Pro deliver orders of magnitude more Sol/s per watt than any GPU. For profitable ZEC mining in 2025, dedicated ASIC hardware is essential.
Which mining pools support Zcash?+
Major Zcash mining pools include F2Pool, 2Miners, ViaBTC, Luxor, and K1Pool. We recommend choosing a pool with low fees (1–2%), regular payouts, and a good reputation for uptime. Joining a larger pool provides more consistent daily earnings.
