With only a handful of viable ASIC options on the market, the choice is relatively straightforward - but the differences between them are significant.

#1: Antminer Z15 Pro - The Clear Leader

The Antminer Z15 Pro from Bitmain is the undisputed best ZEC miner in 2025. At 840 KSol/s with a power draw of 2780W, it delivers 302 Sol per watt - a meaningful efficiency improvement over its predecessor. For anyone building or expanding a Zcash mining operation today, the Z15 Pro is the only serious choice.

The Z15 Pro doubles the hashrate of the standard Z15 while keeping the efficiency ratio competitive. Its dual-fan cooling system is effective but loud - expect approximately 75 dB at full load. Temperature management is critical; keep ambient temperature below 35°C and ensure strong airflow through your facility.

#2: Antminer Z15 - Solid but Superseded

The original Antminer Z15 (420 KSol/s, 1510W) remains operational and profitable in favourable electricity environments. If you can acquire one at a significant discount to the Z15 Pro, the numbers can still work - particularly at electricity rates below $0.06/kWh. However, its 278 Sol/W efficiency trails the Z15 Pro, meaning a higher cost-per-ZEC on electricity.

For new deployments, we recommend the Z15 Pro unless the price differential is substantial. The Z15's main advantage today is availability - it's more widely available on the secondary market at lower prices.

#3: Innosilicon A9++ - Retire It

The Innosilicon A9++ ZMaster (140 KSol/s, 1550W) was a competitive option in its day but is now thoroughly outclassed. At 90 Sol/W efficiency, it burns significantly more electricity per Sol than either Antminer option. Unless you acquired one at near-zero cost, the A9++ will likely operate at a loss at any electricity price above $0.04/kWh.

What About GPU Mining ZEC?

GPU mining Zcash is not viable in 2025. Even the fastest consumer GPU (NVIDIA RTX 4090) produces roughly 1,500 Sol/s - compared to 840,000 Sol/s from the Z15 Pro. The gap is 560×. No GPU configuration can compete profitably against modern Zcash ASICs on the same network. If you want to mine with GPUs, look at other Equihash variants or different algorithms entirely.

For anyone serious about Zcash mining in 2025, the decision tree is simple: if you're investing in new hardware, buy the Antminer Z15 Pro. If you have Z15 units already running, keep them going as long as electricity costs make them profitable. Retire anything older.
