Before You Start: The Checklist
Setting up a Zcash ASIC mining rig is straightforward - but skipping preparation steps causes 90% of the problems new miners encounter. Work through this checklist before you power anything on:
- ✓ Antminer Z15 Pro (or Z15) unpacked and inspected for shipping damage
- ✓ Adequate power circuit: the Z15 Pro requires 240V with a 20A dedicated circuit minimum
- ✓ PDU (Power Distribution Unit) or compatible power cables for your region
- ✓ Router with available ethernet port and DHCP enabled
- ✓ Ventilated location: minimum 200 CFM airflow, ambient temp under 35°C
- ✓ Zcash wallet address (t-address for pool payouts)
- ✓ Mining pool account registered (F2Pool, 2Miners, Luxor, or ViaBTC)
- ✓ Laptop or PC on the same local network for configuration
Safety first: ASIC miners draw substantial power. Never use extension cords or share circuits with other high-draw appliances. Have an electrician verify your wiring if in doubt. The Z15 Pro's 2780W draw on a 240V circuit requires a minimum 16A circuit (20A recommended).
Step 1: Physical Setup and Power
Mount the miner in a rack or place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface. The Z15 Pro has intake fans on one end and exhaust on the other - orient it so hot exhaust air exits toward ventilation. Never stack miners without airflow gaps between them.
Connect the power cable to the miner's PSU input. Plug into your dedicated 240V circuit. Do not power on yet - complete the network connection first.
Step 2: Network Connection
Connect an ethernet cable from the miner's RJ45 port to your router or network switch. The miner will request an IP address via DHCP automatically when powered on. Power on the unit and wait 2–3 minutes for it to fully boot.
To find the assigned IP address: log into your router's admin panel and check the DHCP client list, or use a network scanner tool like Advanced IP Scanner (Windows) or Angry IP Scanner (cross-platform). Look for a device named "Antminer" or with Bitmain's MAC address prefix.
Step 3: Access the Web Interface
Open a browser on a computer connected to the same network. Enter the miner's IP address in the address bar (e.g., 192.168.1.105). You'll see the Antminer login screen. Default credentials are root / root. Log in and immediately change the password to something secure.
The dashboard shows real-time hashrate, temperature per hash board, fan speeds, and network status. Verify all three hash boards show green status before proceeding.
Step 4: Configure Your Mining Pool
Navigate to Miner Configuration in the top menu. You'll see three pool slots - we recommend entering your primary pool in slot 1, and a backup pool in slot 2 for failover.
Example configuration for F2Pool:
Pool 1 URL: stratum+tcp://zec.f2pool.com:3357
Worker: YourZECWalletAddress.workerName
Password: x
Replace YourZECWalletAddress with your actual Zcash transparent (t-address) wallet address. The worker name after the dot can be anything - it's used to identify individual miners on your pool dashboard.
Click Save & Apply. The miner will restart and begin submitting shares within 2–3 minutes.
Step 5: Verify on Your Pool Dashboard
Visit your pool's website and search for your wallet address. Within 5–10 minutes of the miner restarting, you should see: hashrate registering (840 KSol/s for a Z15 Pro), accepted shares accumulating, and an estimated daily earnings figure. If hashrate shows zero after 15 minutes, double-check your pool URL, wallet address, and network connectivity.
Step 6: Monitor and Maintain
ASIC miners require minimal ongoing maintenance but benefit from regular attention:
- Weekly: Check pool dashboard for hashrate consistency and any rejected shares (>1% rejection rate warrants investigation)
- Monthly: Blow dust from intake fans with compressed air
- Ongoing: Monitor ambient temperature - if hash board temps exceed 85°C, improve ventilation immediately
